I'm going to talk about the idea of progress, which is, as the title says, centered around the progress. Historicaly speeking, the progress is the fact describing an evolving world which is gradually improving itself. The idea of progress in it's own defines the theory talking about the advances in society, including technology, economy, science and some other concepts. But we also have to qualify this statement by pointing out some drawbacks : progress can as well be regress. To introduce this notion, I'll start by talking about everyday progress in technology. that is, all the invention of the 21st century and the late XX century. For exemple, the documents from the guardian weekly shows us the evolution in the use of new technologies. We've evolved from watching good old CRT TV in family at home to watching TV show on handheld devices like mobile phone and tablets. Speeking of those, they've made an incredible market penetration, and even private life. Most of the people have a mobile phone, and in recent years they use it for all sort of thing : browsing the web, which is also a recent invention, talking to other, going on social networks, watching TV… That form of technology progress is obvious and visible all the time. Nevertheless, the video Robot Buddies highlights less-known progress in technology, which can be useful in term of educating children having some difficulties. Indeed, those in-development robots, worked for a few years now, are really meant to help teachers an children, in this case autistic students. Moreover, we shouldn't forget the social progress. Ford is the perfect exemple in this branch. He introduced a new form a production, which was preceded by the taylorism. Ford created the assembly line, leading the mass production of his new Model-T car. It helped to increase strongly the production, by decreasing production time and effort, and increasing the efficiency of workers by assigning each one a specific task. This also took to increasing daily wages to five dollar and decreasing working hours, as well as increasing employment. Immigrants were also happy to see eases to integrate since Ford gave to them work and english lessons. Regrettably those points don't solely show progress. In fact, they show drawbacks too. Taking again the example of latest advance in technology, social network for instance, they might provide facility for communication but also dispossession of one's private life since many people exhibit it. For the Robot Buddies case, we ought to remember robot cannot replace a human interaction and it is still and will ever be needed. They have to just stay an assistance to teachers. Finally, Ford wasn't all good either while his production model made his workers bored and dispossessed of their work and their production. To conclude, human has made a great progress over years, even though we're especially talking about the last century, in different domains, particularly technology but also society in general. Sadly there are some drawbacks making progress being seen as regress in some cases.
